Locals barricade road protesting load-shedding

Locals including farmers barricaded Tangail-Mymen-singh highway at Roktipara in Madhupur upazila yesterday morning demanding uninterrupted power supply.
They barricaded the highway with timber for about one hour as their paddy fields have become dry.
Huge traffic congestions on both sides of the highway took place for about 10 kms causing immense sufferings to the passengers in the hot weather.
Afterwards, as officer-in-charge of Madhupur police station Md Shahiful Islam rushed to the spot and assured of smooth power supply the protesters lifted the barricade.
The farmers threatened of tougher action if power supply is not improved within 24 hours.  DGM of Madhupur Palli Bidyut Samity Md Abul Kalam Azad said 26 MWA power is allotted for Madhupur, Dhanbari and Goplapur upazilas.  But only 10-12 MWA power is being supplied for the three upazilas. Madhupur gets supply of 4 - 4.5 MWA power.
Low voltage of power is another cause of irregularities of supply, he added.
