Colourful events to say goodbye to 1422

Chaitra Sankranti--an age-old festival of rural Bangla-- marks the last day of a Bangla year. As part of the event, Dhaka city has arranged an array of colourful events to say goodbye to Bangla year 1422 and to welcome the New Year 1423. On the occasion, Alliance Française de Dhaka is organising a programme today at 5pm. Noted music exponent and former director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Azad Rahman will attend the programme as chief guest, while Professor of the Department of Sanskri of Dhaka University, Niranjan Adhikari and music exponent Sheikh Saadi Khan will be present as special guests. The entire programme, featuring music, recital, classical music and more, will be performed by Dipon Sarkar, setar artiste Ebadul Huq Shaikat, recital artiste GM Morshed, Mahmuda Siddika Sumi, singer Priyanka Bhattacharya and Monjurul Islam Khan.   On the other hand, like previous years, music school Surer Dhara, in association with Channel i, will also bid farewell to the Bangla year 1422 through elaborate programmes at the open premises of the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital. The programme will begin today at 6pm and continue till at 12:05am. Led by the chairman and principal of the school, Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, the artistes of Surer Dhara will render chorus at the programme. Produced by Amirul Islam and Shahidul Alam Sachchu, Channel i will air the programme live from its beginning.
