Police recovered the body of a woman from her Jamtola residence in the district town early yesterday. The victim was identified as Salma Akhtar, 29, wife of Ashik Iqbal Pappu, 38, of the area. Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said Salma, daughter of Mohammad Yusuf of Dhaka got married with Pappu eight years ago. Pappu, an alleged drug addict used to torture Salma physically to realise dowry from her parents, said the OC quoting victim’s relatives and neighbours. Salma, a mother of a five-year-old boy, might have been strangled by her in-laws early yesterday. Police recovered the body lying on the bed at around 2.00am and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said sub-inspector Khondaker Shaker Ahmed. Police also arrested Pappu, his younger brother Aslam Iqbal Sohel, 36, and elder sister Israt Jahan, 44, said the IO.
