ICT verdict any day

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will deliver its verdict any day in a case filed against five Kishoreganj men for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the War of Liberation in 1971. After concluding the final arguments from both the prosecution and defence in the case, the three-member tribunal led by Justice Anwarul Haque yesterday kept the case as CAV [Curia Advisari Vult, a Latin legal term meaning verdict would be delivered anytime]. The five accused are -- Gazi Abdul Mannan, 88, alleged commander of a Razakar camp, Nasiruddin Ahmed, 62, his brother Shamsuddin Ahmed, 60, Hafiz Uddin, 66, and Azharul Islam, 60, all alleged Razakar members from Kishoreganj's Karimganj area. Among them, only Shamsuddin is now in jail while the rest are on the run. On May 10 last year, the prosecution pressed seven charges against the five war crimes suspects.
