Heat wave to continue

The mercury soared to 39.2 degrees Celsius yesterday (Saturday), as the mild to moderate heat wave continued across the country’s north-western and south-western regions. The impact was felt also in the capital, making life unbearable for people. Clouds hovered over the city and the temperature was a little less than Friday’s (36C) sliding to 34.6C. The relative humidity was 55 per cent. Intense heat kept the city streets almost deserted with rickshaw-pullers demanding extra fares. Auto-rickshaw drivers, too, demanded more than what the meter showed. Despite the presence of clouds, there was no rainfall except in the north-eastern city of Sylhet, which recorded a heavy overnight rainfall of 66mm, bringing the day’s maximum temperature down to 32.5C with a minimum of 18.6C, making it cooler than elsewhere.
