Fresh blood in BNP

The BNP yesterday announced the names of seven joint secretaries general and eight organising secretaries three weeks after the party held its national council in the capital on March 19. Addressing a press conference at its Naya Paltan headquarters in the city, the BNP senior joint secretary general, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, announced the names of the new central leaders. The BNP chairperson, Khaleda Zia, nominated them as the party council authorised her to select the leaders.
The new joint secretaries general are barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokhon, Mujibur Rahman Sarwar, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Habib Un Nabi Khan Shohel, Harun-Or Rashid and Lion Aslam Chowdhury.
The organising secretaries are Fazlul Haque Milon (Dhaka), Dr Shahadat Hossain (Chittagong), Nazrul Islam Monzu (Khulna), advocate Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu (Rajshahi), Bilkis Jahan Mirin (Barisal), Asadul Habib Dulu (Rangpur), Imran Saleh Prince (Mymensingh) and Shama Obayed (Faridpur).
Khokon is currently a joint secretary general, Sarwar is organising secretary of Barisal division, Alal Juba Dal  president, Khairul education affairs secretary and Narsingdhi district BNP president, Shohel  president of Swechchhasebak Dal and Dhaka City committee member secretary, Harun Rajshahi division organising secretary and Aslam is Chittagong district (North) BNP president and central committee member.
Milon is organising secretary of Dhaka division, Shahadat Chittagong City BNP general secretary, Monzu assistant organising secretary, Dulu Natore district BNP president, Saleh Barisal district BNP vice-president and Shama Obayed is a central leader.
No leaders, as directed by Khaleda Zia, can hold more than one post. Therefore, Mirza Fakhrul Islam resigned from the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal after he was appointed secretary general. Earlier, Khaleda Zia was re-elected chairperson, and for the first time, her son, Tarique Rahman, was elected senior vice-chairman of the party for another three years.
