The players transfer of Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for the 2016 season will be held at Le Meridian Hotel at 11:00am today through players by choice. This time a total of around 200 players has been drafted under eight categories including icon, A+, A, B+, B, C, D, E and special category dubbed as High Performance category, whose players hailed from the Robi Pacer Hunt Programme. Like Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), players’ transfer in DPL will be evolved on the basis of ‘Players by Choice’ system. The participating 12 clubs will pick the players by lottery.
Each team could retain two players before the players’ draft except from players from Icon and A+ category. But those two teams, who promoted to the premier division, will get first chance to call so that every team get the equal or fair chance to form their team.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) vice president Mahbub Anam revealed this at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after coming out from meeting, where Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolitan (CCDM) chairman Gazi Golam Murtaza, BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury along with participating clubs officials were also present.  In meeting, Mahbub Anam has unanimously been selected players’ draft commissioner, who will conduct Players by Choice.
“Firstly, the auction will be held on Category A to special category. Thereafter, it will be held on icon and A+ categories. More than six people will be allowed to sit each team’s table during the auction. Along with that, lottery will be taken place to select club’s representation so that they could be aware of their turn of calling and set their team’s plan,” said Mahbub Anam about auction proceedings.
“It’s mandatory for each club to pick minimum 10 players from the players’ draft. The unsold players will be considered as free players. Clubs later could include them in their respective team by negotiation. In this case, this type of players will allow negotiating them till the price of their players’ draft,” Anam told reporters.
“We’ve introduced first players’ contract from the board so that the interest of the clubs and players will be restored. Players’ agreement has been mandatory,” he added.
Dhaka Premier League (DPL) is a List-A category one day tournament. For the restoration of the players’ interest each club has to give cheque to the board so that players’ payment is ensured.
“We think that the board has responsibility to the players alongside the clubs so that all the games could be run as per the rules and regulations. We’ve tried our best to bring all those things under discipline,” BCB vice-president thinks.
“When the board takes the cheque then they are taking the responsibility of the players’ payment because clubs will give their cheque to the BCB.”
