CHITTAGONG: Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud said all rivers in the country should be dredged to save the country. He said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided to dig all mainstream rivers in the country so that they do not meet the same fate of Buriganga River in Dhaka, reports BSS. The minister said this as chief guest while handing over three sets of multipurpose dredgers to the Bangladesh Water Development Board by Vosta LMG Karnaphuli Joint Venture Consortium Limited at Karnaphuli Ship Builders office yesterday afternoon. The minister said the government has already procured 17 dredgers in 2009 and has decided to procure another 20 dredgers to maintain navigability of the country's rivers. He said the first dredger had been brought by father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1973.
