Police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind the gang rape of a young woman at her relative’s house in the city’s Rampura area on Saturday, UNB reports.
The detained suspect was identified as Nayem, 20, a resident of Rampura area.
Based on a tip-off, a team of Rampura police launched a drive in West Rampura around 7:30pm and arrested Nayem, sources at the police station said.
On June 13, the 18-year-old woman, along with her husband, came to the house of their relative in West Rampura from Chittagong.
A group of 10-12 local criminals, including Nayem, Sujon, Moin, Arif and Farhad, stormed into the relative’s house around 9:30am and snatched Tk 3,000 from the husband after beating him. The culprits also forced him to transfer Tk 4,000 from his bKash wallet to one of their accounts.
After confining him and the relative in a room, four of them then violated the young housewife in turns. The matter came to light when the victim was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
