Stay alert against fraudsters, says ACC

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked people to immediately contact its head office in the capital if anyone demands any bribe from them introducing themselves as ACC officials, reports UNB. In a statement yesterday, the Commission said an organised quarter is making phone calls to businesspeople or public officials claiming that the Commission is probing graft allegations against them and demand money to avert probe. The national anti-graft body said fake ACC officials were arrested several times in the past, but a quarter now has become active again to cheat people showing the fake identity of the Commission. ACC spokesman and public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said these fraudsters sometimes call people over land or mobile phones and threaten to file corruption cases if they refuse to bribe them. He said ACC officers contact relevant persons through writing during ACC probes while all investigation and inquiry officers have been asked to refrain from using land or mobile phones for any inquiry. The Commission asked the victims to contact ACC director (monitoring and evaluation) Mir Zainul Abedin Shebly over phone: 02-9352552 or 01711644675. On March 29, 2016, the ACC arrested a man who was introducing himself as a director of the Commission.
