Leaders of the newly-formed Bangladesh Nationalist Janata Party (BNJP) have called upon the members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to join the party and help in the implementation of former President Ziaur Rahman’s ideology of a peaceful and sustainable democracy in the country. “We will officially announce the launch of the new party on April 8 at Banani Ground,” Foez Chowdhury, president of BNJP, announced at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday. He said that many senior members of different parties, including the former whip of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Ashraf Hossain, leader of Bikalpodhara, Mahi B Chowdhury, and expelled Jatiya Party leader, Bobby Hajjaz, will take part in the inaugural ceremony of the BNJP. “BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son, Tareque Rahman, are trying to come to power with the help of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, who was involved in genocide during the country’s war of Independence in 1971. I urge you (Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of BNP) to leave the party and join BNJP on April 8 to build a better Bangladesh,” Foez Chowdhury said. Chowdhury, a former General Secretary of Bikalpo Chhatra Dhara, the student wing of Bikalpo Dhara, also said that they will register the party with the Election Commission (EC) for participating in the next elections. Acting Secretary General of the newly floated party, Rehan Mohsin, Organising Secretary, Md Rezaul Karim, and Publicity Secretary, Mohammad Hossain Rimon, among others, attended the press conference.
