Rail bridge collapse snaps Sylhet’s rail link

Sylhet: Train communication of Sylhet with Dhaka and Chittagong has been snapped as a rail bridge collapsed due to heavy rainfall early yesterday, reports UNB. The train communication was snapped from 5am yesterday. Kabir Ahmed, station master of Shamshernagar Railway Station in Kamalganj upazila, said no. 157 Jankichhora rail bridge on Akhaura-Sylhet route collapsed due to heavy rainfall and a flash flood from the hilly area of Lawachhara National Park. Dhaka bound inter-city trains ‘Kalni Express’, ‘Jayantika Express’ and Akhaura bound diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) train remained stranded at Sylhet railway station following the collapse. Ali Azam, sub-assistant engineer of Bangladesh Railway (BR) Srimangal, said it would take 24-30 hours to restore the rail communication.
