Student ‘commits suicide’
Brahmanbaria: A college student reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself with the room ceiling at Madhyapara in the district town on Thursday night, reports UNB.
Quoting relatives, Mainur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station, said Golam Anwar Russel, 20, an accounting student of Brahmanbaria Government College and son of Gola Kibria, a resident of Medda area, went to his uncle’s house in Madhyapara and killedhimself by hanging there around 11:30 pm.
Getting no response from Russel, his uncle informed the matter to his father who called in police. Police recovered the body of Russel breaking open the door and sentit to sadar hospital morgue. Police suspected that Russel might have committed suicide over alove- related matter, said the OC.
5,000 kg jatka seized
Munshiganj: Members of Coast Guard seized 5,000 kilograms of jatka (hilsa fry less than 10 inches long) from a launch in the Dhaleshwari River yesterday, reports UNB.
Coast Guard official Lieutenant Colonel Syed M Kased said a team of coastguards conducted a search in Dhaka-bound launch ‘MV Mahin Rifat’in the morning and seized 5,000 kilograms of jatka. The owner of the fish managed to flee the scene, sensing the presence of the team.
The seized jatka was later distributed among local destitute people and orphanage.
Thunderbolt kills two
FARIDPUR: Two people were killed by thunderbolt in two separate places of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
Police and local sources said Shamayal Chandra Mondol, 40, a wood carpenter, from village Char Joshordi under Nagarkanada upazilla was killed by lightning while returning home from work.
Hassan Molla, 16, son of Jobbar Molla of Krishnagar village under Sadar upazilla was killed by lightning. He was going to field to bring cattle.
1,850 mt garlic harvested
CHUADANGA: A total of 1,850 metric tons of garlic has
been harvested in the current season in the district,
reports BSS.
Chuadanga district agriculture extension department office source said of the total production of garlic, 325 metric tons were produced in Chuadanga Sadar upazila, 525 metric tons in Alamdanga upazila, 300 metric tons in Damurhuda upazila and 700 metric tons in Jibannagar upazila.
The source said during this season 370 hectares of land were brought under garlic cultivation in the district.
