A devastating fire gutted three shops and two warehouses in Kalapara early yesterday. Rezaul Karim, in-charge of Kalapara fire service station, said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a rope shop at about 4:45 am and rapidly engulfed two nearby shops and two warehouses. MKalapara fire service personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire with the help of local people after one hour of frantic effort.
Kalapara upazila parishad chairman Abdul Motaleb Talukder, Kalapara municipality mayor Bipul Chandra Howlader and OC of Kalapara police GM Shahnewaz visited the spot. The loss caused by the fire has been estimated at Tk 65 lakh.
