Rain, wind bring relief at places

A little rain and winds at places brought the mercury down yesterday, after days of rising temperatures, as the Bangla month of Chaitra entered its 14th day. This brought relief from the hot and humid day, with the temperature rising to 34 degrees Celsius in Ishurdi. The rain was due to a westerly low pressure over West Bengal and its adjoining areas of Bangladesh. Although winds were reported from different places, including Dhaka, the meteorological department only recorded squalls reaching up to 61 km per hour (kmph) at Srimangal. In Dhaka, only 2mm rainfall was recorded at the Met office till 6pm. This brought down the temperature to 29.2 degrees Celsius. Scattered rainfall and winds were also reported from other parts of the city.  A weatherman at the Dhaka meteorological office said there is possibility of isolated gusty winds and hailstorms today and in the next two to three days.
Rain was reported from most parts of the country along with gusty winds, the day's highest precipitation of 64mm was reported from Comilla till 6pm. It continued there later in the evening, along with neighbouring districts of Noakhali, Bhola and Sandwip.
After Comilla, Srimangal to its north-east recorded 57mm of rainfall and Feni recorded 53mm, followed by 41mm in northern Mymensingh and 24mm in north-western Dinajpur. The rainfall was 18mm in Rangpur, 12mm at Syedpur, 10mm in Sylhet.
