Convicted ministers must quit

A senior BNP leader yesterday demanded that the government must immediately remove two ministers from the Cabinet as they have been convicted of contempt of court. “Quamrul Islam and AKM Mozammel Haq must be removed immediately from their respective ministries for contempt of court conviction,” said BNP vice-chairman Shah Moazzem Hossain at a discussion meeting at the Jatiya Press Club. Hossain said the party chairperson would announce a fresh course of action after the formation of new central committees. He urged the party rank and file to get ready to carry out movement to restore liberty and democracy in the country. On the cyber heist at Bangladesh Bank, Hossain said it could not have taken place without the government’s help. “The finance minister can’t shirk his responsibility and he should quit immediately,” he added. Secchasebok Dal, a front organisation of the BNP, held the meeting to mark Independence and National Day. Presided over by the party's vice-president Monir Hossain, the meeting was also addressed by Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Abdus Salam Azad and Akhteruzzaman Bacchu, among others. Meanwhile, BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman at a human chain event demanded that the government should form a judicial commission to probe the murder of college student Tonu.
