Khaleda spreads falsehood through Indian media: Mahmood Ali

Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali yesterday strongly protested BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s interview published in Indian Newspaper ‘The Sunday Guardian’, where she alleged that the ruling Awami League-led government tried to stop her meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Dhaka visit. “Khaleda Zia intentionally made this false statement against the government and also me in her interview with ‘The Sunday Guardian’ published on June 13,” the foreign minister said while making a statement under Rule 300 of the Rules of Procedure in the Jatiya Sangsad. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was in the chair. The minister accused BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia of spreading propaganda and falsehood against the government and him. Referring to the query of a journalist of local Bengali newspaper about the probable meeting of Khaleda Zia with Narendra Modi, the Foreign Minister said, “But my statement was partially published in some newspapers.” Replying to that query, the minister mentioned in the House, “Then I have said there is no scope to say anything about this right now. But it was wrongly interpreted as: there is no possibility of any meeting between Zia and Narendra Modi.” The Foreign Minister also said the cabinet at its meeting on June 8 adopted a proposal thanking the Prime Minister but another report was published by that particular newspaper quoting him as saying , “No meeting will be held with Khaleda Zia with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” The foreign ministry took note of that report and issued a rejoinder saying the cabinet on June 8 did not discuss about the meeting of BNP chief with Indian Premier, but it was also partially published there, Mahmood Ali told the House. Referring to a statement of Khaleda Zia on December 15 in 2013, the foreign minister said, “She then said although the country became free from the grab of enemy in 1971, the blue print conspiracy of the evil forces still continues here.” He said Khaleda Zia is a perfect user of false technique as she thinks that frequent lies ultimately become a truth.
