Man to die for killing wife, sister-in-law

A court in Pirojpur sentenced a man to death yesterday for killing his wife and his cousin’s wife in 2011.
Md Golam Kibria district and session judge of Pirojpur pronounced the judgment in presence of the convict, Goutom Roy, 42, son of late Himangsu Roy of village South Badura in Pirojpur.
The court also fined the convict Tk 50,000 for each murder and slapped a further 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fine worth Tk 20,000 for hacking another woman.
According to the prosecution statement, on February 2 in 2011 Goutom Roy slaughtered his wife Sima after she refused to process a fish he brought from bazaar.
Hearing her scream Shefali Rani, wife of Goutom’s cousin, and neighbor Sheuli, wife of Liton Roy, came out of their home and tried to safe Sima. Goutom also attacked and grievously injured them.
Locals rescued them and sent to Pirojpur sadar hospital. There the duty doctor declared Shefali dead. After primary treatment Sheuli was sent to Khulna medical college hospital.
 Police arrested Goutom on that day and put him in jail.
