Expressing New Delhi’s interest to support Dhaka in the space sector, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday said India and Bangladesh is a ‘classic case’ of showcasing to the world how two neighbouring countries can cooperate with each other for mutual gains, reports UNB.
“The two countries have set an example (before the world) how to maintain relations with neighbours and which could be a path for the implementation of the inter-dependent world,” he said.
The Indian Prime Minister said India and Bangladesh want to make progress in the space sector as well and not just on land, water and digital world.
Modi made the remarks as he along with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina jointly launched the much-talked-about bandwidth export and power import by Bangladesh through videoconferencing.
Sheikh Hasina clicked the button for inaugurating the 10 GBPS (internet) bandwidth export from her official Ganabhaban residence in Dhaka, while Modi switched on the button of supplying 100-MW power to Comilla from the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali spoke from Ganabhaban, while Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj spoke from the PMO in New Delhi. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar joined the videoconferencing from Agartala.
Modi said Bangladesh-Bhutan-India and Nepal have started road connectivity together under the BBIN Motor Vehicle Framework.
“We’re now creating new power through electricity and we’re also building digital connectivity that is essential for the 21st century...that means the two neighbours are moving ahead altogether with shoulder to shoulder at all places—water, land and space,” he said.
In this connection, Modi also said the two countries should work together also in space. “It’s our sincere wish to work with Bangladesh in (launching) Bangabandhu Satellite,” he said.

Terming the opening of transmission line as historic, Modi said it opens India’s digital gateway to the east. “It’ll be beneficial for the youth of North East, particularly from Assam, Tripura and Sikkim,” Modi said.
Mentioning the Indo-Bangladesh relations during the War of Liberation and the tenure of Bangabandhu was very strong, he said India was partner at the bad times of Bangladesh in the past while it is also with the country now when Bangladesh is marching towards development.
Terming the day as a historic one, the Indian Prime Minister said such a day comes rarely when the two Prime Ministers along with another Chief Minister inaugurate something through using modern technology.
While talking about the Bangladesh-India T20 cricket match to be held later in the day, Modi said cricket gives energy on friendly sports rising above win-defeat like electricity gives power. “The two teams will play from the place of sportsmanship...it’s my good wish,” he said.
Modi expressed his firm belief that the supply of electricity from India to Bangladesh will be a new dawn of infusing energy while it will also open a new gateway for the two countries.
