Christian convert FF killed in Kurigram

A freedom fighter, who converted to Christianity from Islam 15 years back, was slaughtered by miscreants at Garialpara in the district town yesterday morning, reports UNB. Superintendent of police Tobarak Ullah said three miscreants on a motorbike swooped on Hossain Ali, 68, son of late Sepat Ullah of Garialpara, around 7am while he was on his morning walk on Kurigram-Jigamari ghat road. Quoting witnesses and family members, police said the assailants slit his throat with a sharp weapon while chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’ near Ashrafia Govt Primary School, leaving him dead on the spot.
The attackers also blasted a crude bomb targeting nearby ‘Confidence Coaching Centre’ for their safe exit.
Hearing the bomb blast, locals tried to intercept the motorbike. However, the killers hurled two more crude bombs to make their way out safe.
Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Kurigram Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
They also recovered two unexploded bombs from the scene.
Victim’s son Ruhul Amin Azad said a young man, identifying him as Abul Bashir from Rangpur district, hired their house on March 15 and went away on Saturday saying he would come back soon with his family.
However, his national ID card and mobile phone number were found fake.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Khan Mohammad Nurul Amin visited the spot.
The police super said they arrested three people suspecting their involvement in the killing. “We’re investigating whether it is a militant attack.”
