2 ‘criminals’ held with pistol
Benapole: Police arrested two alleged terrorists along with a pistol from Noapara Nurbag area of Abhoynagar upazila on Sunday night, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Babul Sheikh,
26, son of Kashem Sheikh, and Akbar Shikder, son
of Liakat Shikder, both residents of Bicchali area of
Narail district.
Quoting locals, Sheikh Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Abhoynagar Police Station, said a gang of terrorists attacked a shop of local Jubo-League leader Sujan Patwary in the area around 11am.
Sensing the presence of terrorists, locals surrounded them and informed police.
Later, police arrested the duo along with the pistol and four rounds of bullets from the spot while others managed to flee away. A case was filed in this connection.
8 food shops fined Tk 44,000

A mobile court here on Sunday fined eight business
establishments TK 44,000 for producing foods without license in unhygienic environment and using proscribed chemicals.
A mobile court, led by deputy director Debashish
Roy of The Consumer Rights Protection Departmen, conducted the drives in Hazi Mohosin road, Kali Toad and Pal Bazar area in the afternoon and fined the eight establishments.
The court fined Dhaka Confectionary, Dhaka Hotel,
Al-Helal Hotel, Swapan Store, Kuddus store, Hannan
Store Tk 20,000, Tk 10,000, Tk 5,000, Tk 1,000, Tk 1,000
and Tk 1,000 respectively.
Besides, two egg shops were fined Tk 3,000 each.
Driver killed in road accident
SATKHIRA: A Nosimon driver was killed in a road
accident on Satkhira-Khulna highway at Ahsan
Nagar area when his vehicle hit by a passenger bus on Sunday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain,
28, a native of Telkupi village in Tala upazila of the district, police said.
The accident occurred when a Khulna bound
passenger bus hit the empty passenger human
hauler, locally called Nisomon, in the area killing its
driver on the spot. Emdadul Hoque Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Thana confirmed the incident.
Field day on sweet potato held
GAIBANDHA: A field day on production and dissemination of BARI released orange fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) was held at Ratanpur village under Fulchhari upazila today amid much enthusiasm, reports BSS.
A discussion meeting was also held at the village yesterday on the occasion with district BRAC representative Amal Kumar Dam in the chair. The speakers in their speeches urged the farmers to farm the OFSP on their land in coming seasons to earn economical benefit in a bid to change their socio-economic condition side by side with meeting the nutritional demand particularly Vitamin A. Around 380 bighas of land owned by a total of 2,500 farmers of Fulchhari and Sadar upazilas had been brought under the OFSP farming during the current season for the first time on trial basis for adaptation in the district.
