Benapole: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 18 Bangladesh nationals from Putkhali and Gotipara border areas of Benapole in Jessore district on Sunday night while they were being trafficked to India, reports UNB. Nayek Subedar Tofail Ahmed of BGB battalion-21 said being tipped off, a team of the border guards conducted a drive in the areas and rescued them.
The rescued people, who hail from different areas in Cox’s Bazar, Narail and Brahmanbaria districts, included five women, 10 men and three children, added the official.
However, sensing the presence of the BGB members, the members of the human trafficking gang fled the scene.
Later, the trafficking victims were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
A case was filed in this connection, said Motiur Rahman, assistant sub-inspector of the police station.
