Delegation to join ADB meeting
in Frankfurt

A high-level Bangladesh delegation, led by Finance Minister AMA Muhith is likely to take part at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank, which will be held in Frankfurt, Germany from May 2-5 this year, reports UNB. The seven-member Bangladesh delegation will also include Economic Relations Division (ERD) Senior Secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin, Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany Muhammad Ali Sorcar and ERD Joint Secretary Saifuddin Ahmed, an ERD official said.
The official said the Finance Minister and all the delegation members except the Bangladesh ambassador to Berlin would leave the capital for Germany on May 1 while they are expected to depart Frankfurt for home on May 6.
According to ADB, the ADB Annual Meeting will be one of the most important international events Germany will host in 2016 as it will bring together over 3000 people from across the globe, with officials from member countries, representatives of international organizations, financial institutions, business, civil society, and the media.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to attend the Host Country Reception Event on May 2. During this annual meeting, financing will be the key to meeting the historic challenges set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as the landmark climate agreement reached in Paris. While 2015 was a year of historic commitments, 2016 must become the starting point for implementation. “Cooperating for Sustainability” is the chosen theme of the meeting, and so it will address innovative financing instruments for meeting the challenges associated with sustainable energy supply, vocational training and better jobs. Other key issues will be financial cooperation between Europe and Asia, as well as the role of municipalities in advancing sustainable development.
