All polling centres risky in Kaliganj

All the 19 polling centres in Kaliganj pouroshova have been identified risky in the second phase of pouroshova election in Jhenidah. According to Jhenidah superintendent of police (SP) office sources, those centers have been considered as risk-prone on the basis of their infrastructural conditions, communication facilities, geographical location, political and law and order situation. According to Jhenidah district election office sources, there are 37,044 voters in Kaliganj municipality, which include 17,617 men and 18,427 women.
They said there are five mayor aspirants, 45 councillor candidates and 12 candidates for women reserved seats to contest the March 20 elections. AL backed candidate and president of pouro AL Moksed Ali Biswas, AL rebel candidate pouro AL joint secretary Masudur Rahman Montu, BNP backed candidate and president of pouro BNP Atiar Rahman, BNP rebel candidate Ashrafuzzaman Lal and Islami Andolan Bangladesh backed candidate Nurul Islam are contesting for the mayoral post.
Special security measures, including deployment of additional law enforcers and conducting mobile courts and raids to arrest the troublemakers, will be taken to ensure holding of a free, fair and peaceful election, police super (SP) Altaf Hossain said. District returning officer and deputy commissioner Mahbub Alam Talukdar, said a list of the risky centers has already been sent to the assistant returning officers for taking necessary actions.
