She comes from a remote village in Yunnan’s Shilin County. She used to feel inferior because of her poor family and had low self-esteem due to her hard life. She was successively a cleaner and a warehouse keeper. She even get involed in a lawsuit. She had to bear too many burdens, but she rose to her feet with tenacity. Today, she not only has started her own business, but has become an “able woman” as well.

Her name is Wu Cuihua. She is general manager of Yunnan Nuofeidi Stone Company.

Wu Cuihua was born into a poor family. “When I was already a big girl, I had never had a skirt or a pair of leather shoes. At that time, my biggest dream was to wear a pretty skirt,” Wu Cuihua recalled.

In 1999, Wu Cuihua left the village and found a job at a stone factory in Shilin. Due to lack of skills, Wu Cuihua could only work as a cleaner and then a warehouse keeper. Two years later, with the money she had saved, Wu Cuihua start a business. However, instead of making fortunes, she got involved in a lawsuit and fell into a debt of 80,000 yuan.

The two years that followed were a low point in Wu Cuihua’s life. She almost completely isolated herself from others except for a few telephone calls to her family. “If it had not been for these two years, I could not have achieved what I have today.” In Wu Cuihua’s words, the lawsuit frustrated her, but it also  taught her lessons. Today, she always keeps calm whenever something bad happens.

Being short of money, Wu Cuihua returned to Shilin alone and worked at the police station as a household registration clerk for a year. During this period, she learned to listen and became sophisticated while supporting her family with a monthly salary of 450 yuan.

Then she left the police station and became a saleswoman. She proved herself to be good at sales and the employer began to think highly of her. Two years later, the company even bought a car for her use. After working there for one more year, Wu Cuihua believed it was time to start her own business. Although the employer offered a big pay raise and a promotion, Wu Cuihua resolutely left the company and started Yunnan Nuofeidi Stone Company. Thanks to her past experience, Wu Cuihua learned to do things prudently. In a year, her company achieved a sales revenue of more than seven million yuan.
