Kanthashilon, a well-known recitation organisation, organised a two-day festival titled ‘Waheedul Haque Sharonik Milanatsab-2016’, on the occasion of the 83rd birth anniversary of Tagore exponent and cultural activist Waheedul Haque, a writer, a journalist, and also a founder member Kanthashilon, at the Shawkat Osman Memorial auditorium of Central Public Library, Shahbag in the capital.
Kanthashilan artistes recited poems by the famous poets to commemorate the cultural personality, marking his birth anniversary.
The event concluded on Saturday by paying tribute to noted poet and freedom fighter Rafiq Azad, who died on Saturday.
The concluding day also featured the presentation of group recitation by different troupes such as Abrity Academy, Swarbanjan and Dhwani. Wordsmith Ashraful Alam, Professor Niranjan Adhikari, Rupa Chakraborty, Mashkur-e-Sattar Kallol, Mazumder Biplob, Faizullah Syed, Dr Shahadat Hossain, Masum Azizul Bashar and Sharif Mazumder, among others, took part in solo recitals. Attended by cultural personality Syed Hasan Imam and director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky, discussion on the life and works of Waheedul Haque was held.
Earlier on Friday, the inauguration ceremony was held at the same venue, which featured procession, discussion session and presentation of ‘Chand Baniker Pala’. Presided over by Kanthashilan president Ahmad Ul Hasan Hasanur, the opening day programme was attended by Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Golam Kuddus, Bangladesh Abbrity Samannay Parishad general secretary Ahkam Ullah, Patha Natak Parishad president Mannan Hira, Jatiya Kobita Parishad president Poet Habibullah Siraji, Bangladesh Gono Sangeet Samannay Parishad president Fakir Alamgir, and cultural personality Jhuna Chowdhury. l
