The road transport ministry has decided to supply stickers to all vehicles with updated documents. “The decision was taken earlier and we are going to implement it soon. These stickers will be provided in phases,” road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader told reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting at the Secretariat yesterday. Among others, shipping minister Shajahan Khan, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, state minister for local government and rural development (LGRD) Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) chairman Nazrul Islam, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia and leaders of the transport sector attended the meeting.
“The law enforcement agencies won’t examine the cars bearing the stickers. Even if they do so, it won’t take much time,” Shajahan Khan said. Quader also spoke against toll collection on highways across the country.
“This is simply extortion under the pretext of toll collection. It should be stopped at any cost,” the minister said. “The home minister has given us an assurance in this regard. The law enforcement agencies will take proper initiatives to stop such collection of tolls on highways,” he added.
Toll is collected in a multidimensional way and, so, the government has taken  a firm decision against it, the minister said. The home ministry will go for enforcement against such so-called toll collection, Quader said.
