Campaign gets momentum in 5 Kotchandpur UPs

Campaign for vote in five unions of Kotchandpur upazila in Jhenidah is gaining momentum ahead of the election scheduled there for March 22. Candidates and their close associates are moving from door to door to woo voters.
Kashem Ali, a voter of Kushna union, said there are also some candidates, who live in other places, have suddenly appeared in the locality seeking votes.
Dipak Kumar, a voter of Dora union, said the people of his locality now are now being treated with respect following the announcement of union parsihad election. The rural people are appreciated highly by the vote seeking people, Dipak said.
Upazila election officer Mahmudur Rahman said 26 aspirants have submitted nominations for the chairmanship and 175 for the ward member positions, while 45 submitted nominations for 15 reserved seats in the upazila.
The Election Commission (EC) sources said there are 16,506 voters, including 8,185 female, in Safdarpur union. Four intending candidates are Awami League-backed Nowser Ali, BNP-supported Mijanur Rahman Khan, Independent candidates Golam Mstafa and Belayet Hossain.
Some 15,976 voters, including 7,903 female, will cast their votes in Dora union. Five intending candidates are AL-backed Kabil Uddin Biswas, BNP-backed Manirul Islam, Jamaat-backed Abdur Razzaque Khan, independent candidates Manik Mia and Jahidul Islam.
Some 18,942 voters, including 9,452 female, are going to cast their votes in Kushna union. Seven contestants are Liakat Hossain from the BNP, Abdul Hannan from ruling AL, independent candidates Zulfiker Ali, Sharifur Rahman Tito, Waheduzzaman, Atiar Rahman and KM Helaring.
In Baluhar UP, 15,596 voters, including 7,903 female, are expected to cast their votes. Seven candidates are contesting in the election. They are Abdul Matin for ruling AL, Rafiqul Islam from the BNP, Shah Alam from Jamaat, independent candidates Abul Kalam Azad, Saidur Rahman, Shahjahan Ali and Shariful Islam.
In Elangi union, 14,279 voters, including 7.039 female, will cast their votes. The contestants are Mijanur Rahman from ruling AL, Abdur Razzaque from the BNP and Shahabuddin Khan from the Jamaat.
