9 hurt in clashes in 
Pirojpur, Pabna

At least nine people were injured in separate clashes during electioneering ahead of the UP elections in Pirojpur and Pabna districts yesterday, reports UNB. In Pirojpur, five people were injured in a clash between the supporters of two chairman aspirants of Shialkathi Union Parishad in Kawkhali upazila in the afternoon.
Locals said Jatiya Party chairman candidate as well as incumbent chairman M Delwar Hossain and independent candidate M Siddique Gazi were carrying out campaign at Shankarpur village along with their respective
supporters.
However, they engaged in a clash when they met at a place around 1pm.
At one stage, supporters of Delwar Hossain forcibly picked up Siddique Gazi’s brother Kamal Gazi as he was trying to open fire on the opponents.
On information, police rushed in and arrested Kamal along with a pistol and eight bullets, said sub-inspector of Kawkhali Police Station M Monir Hossain.
In Pabna, four members of a family were injured as the supporters of Awami League chairman aspirant allegedly attacked the house of AL rebel candidate in Chakla Union Parishad of Bera upazila in the afternoon.
AL rebel chairman candidate Shamimul Islam said ruling party chairman hopeful Faruk Hossain and his men were obstructing him from participating in the electioneering.
On Friday afternoon, Faruk’s supporters launched attacks on his house, leaving his mother, wife, brother and nephew injured.
They attackers also vandalised the house and looted three motorcycles and Tk 5 lakh in cash during the two-hour long rampage, Shamimul claimed.
On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control, said officer-in-charge of Bera Model Police Station Firoz Ahmed.
