I’ll work as I did in the past: New ACC chief

Newly appointed chairman of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Iqbal Mahmood on Thursday said he will perform his duty as he did in the past as a government official, reports UNB. “I performed government duty in the past. I’ll be working in a new position (as ACC chairman) as I did in previous government job,” he told UNB over phone immediately after his appointment. Sought comment about his plan to fight against corruption, Mahmood said he has nothing to say right now as he will hopefully take over the charge on Monday. Earlier in the day, the government on appointed former senior secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) Iqbal Mahmood as the ACC chairman as the tenure of incumbent chairman M Bodiuzzaman expires on Sunday. Besides, former District and Sessions Judge AFM Aminul Islam was appointed commissioner of the anti-graft watchdog body. He will replace ACC outgoing commissioner M Shahabuddin. Earlier the government had appointed Iqbal Mahmood chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in August last year, but he did not join it.
