B’desh, EU to hold business climate talks

Bangladesh and the European Union (EU) Business Council in Bangladesh will jointly organise “EU –Bangladesh business climate dialogue” to discuss business barriers and find out solutions to the hindrances to a conducive business atmosphere in the country. The talks will be held on May 12 in Dhaka, commerce minister Tofail Ahmed said yesterday. The minister was briefing reporters after a meeting with the EU ambassador to Bangladesh, Pierre Mayaudon, at the Secretariat yesterday afternoon.
“The EU is the largest export destination of Bangladeshi products. So, we'll hold the dialogue to extend our exports” he said.
“Parliament has assured foreign investors that they would be able to carry out business activities smoothly in our country. They can take back their profits with investment at any moment,” he added.
The minister said foreign investment is fully protected by Parliament.
“The country’s investment-friendly law is very attractive for foreign investors. We've have also set up a special economic zone so that foreigners can invest here,” he added.
Terming the discussion with Mayaudon as very fruitful, Tofail said that EU has helped Bangladesh in developing the RMG sector and it has provided duty and quota-free access of all Bangladeshi products, except arms, to their markets. On the recent security issue at airports, the minister said that Bangladesh and UK would resolve the issue jointly.
