A housewife was murdered allegedly by her husband over dowry in Khamarkandi village in Sherpur upazila of the district on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Joynab Begum,25, wife of Abdur Rouf of village Khamarkandi of the upazila. Locals said Abdur Rouf, 30, of Khamarkandi village of Sherpur upazila married Joynab daughter of Tamij Uddin before four years. Abdur Raouf had been torturing Joynab for dowry. On Saturday night Joynab asked her husband to bring candle for there was load shading. This triggered hassle between them and at one stage, Rouf and his family members beat Joynab severely and told her to bring Tk 50,000 money from her parents. As she refused to bring the money, they strangulated Joynab to death. Later, they hanged the body with the ceiling of the house and went into hiding. Family members of the victim said they had already given Tk 50,000 during the marriage. On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Md Ali Ahmed Hasmi, officer in-charge of Sherpur police station said a complaint has been lodged in this connection and police have already stated investigation, OC added.
