Bangladesh makes remarkable progress: WB VP

World Bank (WB) Vice-President for South Asia Region Annette Dixon yesterday lauded Bangla-desh’s success in the overall progress, saying the country made tremendous development in various sectors including poverty alleviation and standard of living, reports BSS. “I think the World Bank’s global knowledge and financing system can greatly help Bangladesh to make more progress and further reduce poverty and improve the living standard of the people,” she told reporters after a meeting with Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith in the capital. The WB vice-president also expressed her satisfaction on the overall progress of various projects, financed by the Bangladesh Government and the World Bank.
“Today, I have an opportunity to review a number of such projects, which have impressed me a lot,” she said. During the meeting, Annette Dixon introduced the newly appointed
World Bank Country Director Qimiao Fan with the finance minister.
The World Bank has appointed Qimiao Fan, a Chinese national, as
the new country director for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.
On his first visit to Bangladesh, Fan was accompanied by Annette Dixon.
