A Bangladeshi naval ship rescued 23 fishermen whose boat was found floating in the Bay of Bengal, 30 miles off the Cox’s Bazar lighthouse, on Sunday. The boat had been floating for three days in the sea, with its engine out of order. It had sailed for the deep sea on Friday, but ran out of food and water soon. It strayed off the mobile phone network and hence all efforts to rescue the fishermen went in vain, said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate release yesterday. But the fishermen were fortunate to have been found by Suravi, a Bangladeshi naval ship engaged in Operation Aborodh. After rescuing the boat, the navy personnel gave the fishermen emergency treatment and also provided them with food and water.
