Describing the BNP-Jamaat relationship as an ‘illegal affair’, Awami League Publicity And Publications Affairs Secretary Hasan Mahmud yesterday said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia should sever ties with Jamaat to drum up support from the people. “The people of Bangladesh and the world community do not approve of the existing relation between the BNP and Jamaat. So Khaleda Zia should give up on Jamaat to garner from the people,” he said. He was addressing a discussion organised by Swadhinata Parishad on the country’s latest political situation at National Press Club in the capital. Hasan Mahmud, also the former environment and forest minister, said the BNP will be spilt into several fractions and face the safe fate as Muslim League in the near future if it does not cut ties with Jamaat immediately. He also extended thanks to former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, the BNP founding
secretary general, for calling upon the BNP recently to snap ties with Jamaat for the sake of its survival as a political party in the future.
