Ashraf Mahmud enthrals IGCC audience

Bangladesh Shilpakala Padak-winning singer Ashraf Mahmud enthralled the audience at the evening of Rabindra Sangeet organised by Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) at Saturday at the IGCC’s Gulshan premises in the city. Ashraf Mahmud rendered a total of 15 songs in his one and half  hour performance which included a number of famous Tagore songs including ‘Ogo Dukho Jaganiya’, ‘Ognibina’, ‘Bipulo Taranga Re’, ‘Bahire Bhul Bangbe Jakhan’, ‘Sundaro He Sundaro’, ‘Amar Moner Koner Baire’, ‘Aji Jhoro Jhoro Mukhoro Badolo Dine’, ‘Nayan Mele Dekhi Amay’, ‘Tumi Kon Bhangoner Pothe Ele’ and ‘Ami Tomar Preme’. Throughout the entire programme he was accompanied by Pallab Sannyal on Tabla, Simon Reza Khan on Keyboard, Gazi Abdul Hakim on Flute and Asit Biswas on Esraj
Ashraf Mahmud got his Bachelor of Music degree from Dhaka University. He got training in Rabindra Sangeet from Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, Late Abdul Ahad, Sadi Mohammad and Tapan Mahmud. Apart from this, he learnt classical music from Prof. Shamima Parvin and Late Ustad Fazlul Haque among others. He was awarded Bangladesh Shilpakala Padak-2013 in recognition of his contribution to the field of music under Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Meherpur District. He was Secretary General for seven years at ‘Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad’ in Meherpur District.
Mahmud is Special Grade Singer of BTV, Bangladesh Betar, Masranga TV, SATV, MOHONA TV, NTV and 71TV. He is also Music Director in Bangladesh Television and Music Trainer, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. He participates in music programmes in Bangabhaban, Bishsho Sahitto Kendro, and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy etc.
