Two accused in a case, filed over the killing of a businessman and his driver, were killed and another was injured in a ‘gunfight’ between their cohorts and police at Nagorikandi in Narsingdi town early yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Zahirul, 25, son of Yusuf Miah of Nagariakandi of the district town, and Rakib, 24, son of Syeed Miah while injured was Hoosain, 22. Tipped off that some suspected criminals, including a First Information Report (FIR) enlisted accused in the double murder case, were gathering in the area, a team of police launched a drive there around 3am, said sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station Manir Hossain. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire at police prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight around 3:30 am. Three people -- Zahirul, 25, Rakib, 24, and Hossain 22 -- were caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries. Later, police arrested them and rushed them to Narsingdi district Hospital where doctors declared Zahirul dead around 4am. However, the two other injured Rakib and Hossain were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition kept deteriorating.
