An eight year old child was killed by a teenager in Betjury of Gazipur over an earlier conflict with the victim’s father. The victim was identified as Shahin, 08, son of Emdadul Haque of Betjury area and a student of class 3 of Sultan Uddin Memorial Academy in Betjury. The victim’s body was recovered from a canal in the area yesterday morning, following confession from the murderer. Police arrested a teenager named Pappu, 17, a resident of Betjury area in Gazipur and son of Delowar Hossain of Changirampur village under Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur district, over the murder. Officer In-charge of Sreepur Model Police station Asaduzzaman said Pappu once worker at the same Alif Engineering workshop with the victim’s father Emdadul Haque. After Pappu moved to a different workshop recently, Emdadul refused to pay Pappu two month’s salary that was given to Emdadul by the workshop owner. There was a conflict between the two over this money that led to the killing of Emdadul’s son Shahin, the OC said. “Pappu gave Shahin some chocolates and took him from his residence to Betjury canal at around 7 pm on Wednesday. At one stage, Pappu hit Shahin with a stick on the head and threw him into the canal,” the OC said, quoting locals. When Shahin’s parents returned from work on Wednesday and couldn’t find their son at home, they began searching for him at their neighbours. Some locals told them they saw Shahin with Pappu in the evening. Later, they caught Pappu yesterday morning from his house and based on Pappu’s confession, recovered their son’s floating body from Betjury canal, said police.
