Gazipur, March 3: A total of Tk 1.84 crore was looted from Money Plant Private Limited, tasked with supplying cash at ATM booths, during a routine operation at Dutch Bangla Bank in Harinhati area (Shafipur) of Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur at 3am on Thursday. Three gunmen were injured as they tried to resist the miscreants during the incident, which took place near the Apex Footwear factory in the area beside the Dhaka-Tangail highway. They were identified as Liakot Hossain, 40, Ziaur Rahman, 35 and Sheikh Shahjahan, 32. Director (Administration) of Money Plant Private Limited Ajoy Kumar Kor informed that a seven-member team of Money Plant Private Limited Dhaka was on way to load cash at 33 ATM booths of Dutch Bangla Bank on Wednesday night. After completing the operation at 18 points, they reached the Shafipur Dutch Bangla Bank fast-track ATM booth near Apex Footwear Limited at Harinhati area around 2.30 am on Thursday. Four members of the team entered the booth, with three gunmen standing to guard outside. After they had loaded Tk 22 lakh at four booths, around a dozen miscreants in a pick-up van arrived and attacked the company staff, who were unloading trunks from a microbus. The miscreants made a quick escape with two trunks of cash. The gunmen Liakot Hossain, Ziaur Rahman and Sheikh Shahjahan were injured in the incident. Liakot Hossain was sent to Savar Enam Medical Hospital, while the two others were sent to Kaliakoir upazila health complex. Police arrived the spot shortly after the incident took place, while senior officials of the Dutch Bangla Bank and Money Plant Private Limited visited on Thursday morning. However, Executive Director (ATM Booth Division) of Dutch Bangla Bank Masud Rana filed a complaint with Kaliakoir police station in this connection. The Officer-in-Charge of Kaliakoir police station Abdul Motaleb said, “We took gunman Ziaur Rahman for interrogation. We are investigating whether the incident was a pre-planned act.”
