No programme other than Barshabaran (Pahela Baishakh) by Chhayanat will be allowed at Ramna Park to help retain its beauty and heritage, public housing and public works minister Mosharraf Hossain said yesterday. To develop Ramna Park, a committee, comprising representatives of the civil society, environmentalists, the ministry and the department concerned, will be formed. The PWD minister declared this at a discussion at the Bangladesh Krishibid Institute. A master plan has been prepared to develop a green and aesthetic belt with Ramna Park and Suhrawardy Uddyan, adding to the area’s overall beauty and conservation, the minister said. He added that the plan includes the sites of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s speech on March 7, 1971, and of the surrender of the Pakistani Army. This would help visitors learn about the history of these sites, the minister said. Presided by Prof. Muntasir Mamun, the discussion had participants like PWD secretary Mainuddin Abdullah, Prof. Dwizen Sharma, Shahjahan Mridha Benue of Tarupallav, architect Mobassher Hossain, architect Iqbal Habib, and president of the Institute of Architects, Abu Sayeed M Ahmed.
