ULAB recently won the 9th Fair Play Cup 2016 beating Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) in the final match by five wickets at ULAB Play Cricket Ground, Mohammadpur, says a press release.
ULAB won the toss and elected to bat field first. GUB scored 67 runs by losing all wickets in 19.3 overs. ULAB scored 71 from 13.2 overs by losing five wickets. Imran of ULAB took two wickets and was announced as the man of the match of 9th Fair Play Cup 2016 Final.
Md. Hasanuzzaman of ULAB was awarded as the man of the tournament, while Sabith of ULAB was awarded the best fielder of the tournament. Auvik of ULAB was declared as best batsman of the tournament and Nazmul of GUB were awarded best bowler of the tournament.
A total of 20 T20 matches were held in the tournament. After 12 matches, the best eight teams fought it out in the super 8 round to reach the semifinal. Two winning teams ULAB and GUB played for the trophy in the Final.
The champion team received BDT 40,000 and has earned the opportunity to participate in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Final Tournament. On the other side runner-up team got BDT 25,000.
A total of 12 private universities including North South University, BRAC University, Independent University Bangladesh, East West University, Eastern University, Southeast University, United International University, State University of Bangladesh, Green University of Bangladesh, Daffodil International University, European University of Bangladesh, and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh participated in the tournament.
Besides all other guests, pro vice-chancellor of ULAB, professor H M Jahirul Haque, Registrar Lt. Col (Retd.) Md. Foyzul Islam and advisor of Student Affairs and Communications of ULAB, Juditha Ohlmacher were also attended the match and handed over awards. Every year since 2006, ULAB has been organising the Fair Play Cup.
