BCB reiterates zero tolerance security plan for Asia Cup

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) reiterated its stance on showing zero tolerance about security, stating they would enforce the same security plan for the Asia Cup that they had taken for the just concluded ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup.
To make the youth World Cup successful, the board with the help of the government and its security organs had formulated a foolproof security plan, which was unprecedented at this level of cricket.
BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury admitted the matter and said that they will take the same security measures that they had taken for the ICC U-19 World Cup.
“Since a team pulled out from the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2016 then the uncertainty amongst the other participating nations had grown up. At that time the security issue rocked around the world. And so we took the issue as a challenge to hold the event successfully,” said Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.
“We got the support from all especially Asian Cricket Council (ACC), who then helped us enormously to select Bangladesh as the host for the next edition of the Asia Cup. Actually, Bangladesh get the charge to host the Asia Cup T20 2016 in that aspect. We’ve successfully finished the U-19 World Cup. We’re very much confident to host the Asia Cup in that manner,” Chowdhury told reporters at his office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.
The 13th Asia Cup will be held in Dhaka ahead of the ICC World T20 2016. And so, all the Asian teams will get an opportunity to hone their skills and techniques prior to the mega event to be held in India, starting from March 8 to April 3.
BCB CEO however said they didn’t get any information about security threat for the tournament as yet.
“We are yet to get any objection from any team about security. But all the stakeholders of the government security organs assured us of providing all-out support to make the next Asia Cup successful,” the CEO told in response to a query.
Nizam Uddin also said that they are mulling to talk with other board members to present a standard security level plan in ICC meeting.
“Our board president earlier told about the standard security level plan. We’re also thinking to discuss the matter with other ICC board member nations so that ICC can take steps to devise a standard security plan, in where a member country could pull them out from ICC or other tournament to cross the level.”
In a bid to play the qualifying round of the T20 Asia Cup 2016, all the overseas teams who would play qualifying leg matches arrived in Dhaka yesterday. They are accommodated at Le Meridien Hotel.
