Bangladesh women’s coach Janak Gamage is hopeful of faring well in World T20 and said that they are working on filling the lacking in skills and techniques by playing practice matches ahead of the ICC World T20 2016.
“Returning home from Thailand after playing the World Cup Qualifier, we’ve played a string of practice matches. We’ll play some more games at the fag’s end of the current month at home yard. We’ve prepared the practice schedule for the team in that way before going to World Cup,” said Janak Gamage.
“Comparatively batting has been progressed than the past. We’ll do practice in big ground. We’ll try to improve more in run between the wickets. We had played some practice matches, where women’s put on 120 plus runs. Even, they won matches chasing 120 runs. It’ll be further improved after playing the next practice matches,” Gamage told media at National Cricket Academy ground yesterday.
About the possibility to enter the next round of the World T20, the head coach said that they needed to win at least two matches against top-ranked teams for it.
“In World T20, we’ve to play all the matches against top-ranked teams like England, India, West Indies and Pakistan. We’re now 9th in ICC rankings. To go into the next phase of the World T20, we’ve to win two more matches,” Bangladesh coach said.
Citing spin as their main strength, Sri Lanka-born coach said, “Wickets in India are mostly spin-friendly. The main strength of our team is spin. So, that will be advantage for us to fare well.
The coach said that they didn’t get more chance to play more matches against better team due to lower rankings.
“We’re placed ninth in ICC rankings. Top eight teams can play more matches in ICC. And so, we don’t get more chances to play against top-ranked teams,” Gamage said, adding “But the board has tried to arrange series against South Africa, Ireland. They talked with Pakistan and Sri Lanka. But none of them did come here,” coach said.
If the schedule is in right shape, the team will play four practice matches, which will be held at BKSP on February 24, 25, 27 and 29 respectively as per the schedule.
