College teacher dies at DMCH
A college teacher, who sustained burns in the June 3 petrol bomb attack on a bus in Chandina upazila of Comilla, succumbed to injuries yesterday. The victim, Ranjit Sharma, 35, a lecture at Rangamati Government College, is the first person to die in the attack. He was undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. DMCH police outpost in-charge Mozammel Haque said Ranjit died around 3am. On June 3, at least seven people sustained severe burns when assailants hurled petrol bombs at a bus in Chandina Upazila of Comilla. Immediately after the attack, joint forces arrested seven leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different places of the upazila in connection with the petrol bomb attack. The arrestees were identified as Abul Bashar, 63, ameer of the Chandina upazila unit Jamaat, and members of the party: Obaidullah, Muhibullah, Omar Faruk, Abdur Razzak, Rafiqul Islam, and Nayan. Prabir Kumar Roy, assistant sub-inspector of Chandina Police Station, filed a case against 15 named and 15/20 unnamed people. A five-member probe committee, headed by Additional District Magistrate Golamur Rahman, has been probing the incident.
