A greedy man allegedly has cut off hair of his wife in anger after failing to materialise his demand for dowry at Balidapara village in Kaliganj upazila of the district. Police arrested the accused -- Shahinur Biswas -- from the village yesterday morning after his wife filed a case with Kaliganj police station. Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj police station Anwar Hossain said Ayesha Begum, daughter of Ayub Nabi of Balidapara, was given marriage to Shahinur of the same village about 12 years ago. Parents of Ayesha gave Tk 1.5 lakh to Shahinur at the time of marriage. But, Shahinur and his family members continued to put pressure on Ayesha to bring more money from her parents.  They are often engaged in altercation on the matter. At one stage of altercation early yesterday, the husband beat his wife and cut off her hair. Ayesha yesterday morning filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act accusing her husband. Police arrested the accused in the afternoon, the OC said.
