Eight people were killed and two schoolgirls injured in separate accidents yesterday. In Jessore, four people were killed in separate accidents. The deceased were identified as Salma Sultana, 32, of Chittagong, Pradip Majumder, 50, Arif Hossain, 23, second year honours student of Jessore Cantonment College and Magferat Mohori, 28, of Satkhira. Masudur Rahman, in-charge of Khajura police camp, said the first accident took place when a goods-laden truck collided with a Jessore-bound night coach of Green Line Paribahan at Bhatar Amtala on Jessore- Magura Road at around 7am due to poor visibility. At least 15 passengers of the bus were wounded in the accident. Of the injured, two were declared dead by the attending doctor after they were rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Another accident on the same road occurred at Kodalia as a bus rammed into a motorbike killing college student Arif Hossain on the spot at around 12:20pm, said Ilias Hossain, OC of Kotwali police station. A passenger of a Jessore-bound bus was killed and four were hurt as the driver lost control over the steering of his vehicle and met an accident at Beneali on Jessore- Benapole Road in Jhikargachha upazila at around 11:30am, Mollah Khabir Ahmed, OC of Jhikargachha police said. In Bagerhat, two persons were killed and four others injured in a road accident at Bisot road crossing under Kachua upazila on Bagerhat-Moralganj road yesterday afternoon. The victims are Sheikh Anwar Hossain, 85, and his son Humayun Kabir, 45.
OC of Kachua police Shamsher Ali said a motorcycle carrying Humayun and his father was hit by a battery run autorickshaw at Bisot in Morolganj upazila, leaving the duo dead on the spot. Four others injured were admitted to a local clinic. In Rajshahi: A 13-year-old boy was killed and another injured when a bus knocked them down in Palpara area under Motiher Police station in the city yesterday afternoon, report BSS. The deceased was identified as Limon, son of Nobab Ali of the nearby Kapasia area. The injured boy identified as Skakil, 10, was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). Police said the boys met the road accident while they were going to take part in private tuition class riding on bicycle around 4.30 pm. After knocking them down the bus plunged into a roadside ditch. Local people rushed them to the RMCH immediately where the attending doctors declared Limon dead. In Mymensingh, an unidentified man and two others were injured when a Dhaka-bound bus crashed a rickshaw van at Shikarikanda area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Mymensingh sadar upazila yesterday noon. In Satkhira, two schoolgirls were injured as a speeding bus knocked down their bicycles on Satkhira-Kaliganj road in Bohera area of Debhata upazila yesterday. OC of Debhata police Mostafizur Rahman said a Kaliganj-bound bus from Satkhira hit Sumaia Khatun and Amena Khatun, both students of class-VI while they were going to Bohera High School riding bicycles at around 9am, leaving them seriously injured.
