Bangladesh iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been sold for the forthcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The current edition is likely to roll on to the ground this July with the participation of the six teams- Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), Zouks. The 2016 CPL Player Draft was unveiled at a gala ceremony in style in Barbados on Thursday. A total of seven players from Bangladesh including Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mustafizur Rahman, Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes were placed in the preliminary list of the players’ draft.
Of them, Shakib is the lone Bangladeshi player to get a team. This time he will perform for Jamaica Tallawahs, who spent a staggering amount of $110,000 to rope in Shakib. The all-rounder is the third highest paid player in his team after Chris Gayle ($190,000) and Kumar Sangakkara ($130,000).
This Bangladeshi premier all-rounder had played for Barbados Tridents in 2013. He was scheduled to play for Tridents in 2014 but he could not play due to the NOC complication. Tridents was championed in that year.
Barbados Tridents will be spear-headed by the arrival of star Proteas batsman AB de Villiers who will join fellow South Africans Robin Petersen and David Wiese alongside the influential Kieron Pollard, Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik, Ravi Rampaul and Steven Taylor (ICC Americas) who was also retained by the franchise.
Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga, Chadwick Walton and Andre Russell will also play beside them in the Tallawahs, who was champions in the maiden edition in 2013.
