Four people were killed and 31 others injured in separate accidents in Manikganj and Sherpur yesterday.
A four-year-old child was killed and 30 others were injured as a bus fell into a roadside ditch near Muljan bus stand here yesterday. The deceased was identified as Umme Tanha Tuktuki, daughter of Nazrul Islam of Gobindapur village in Monirampur upazila of Jessore.
Nurul Isam, traffic inspector of Manikganj, said the accident occurred when a Jessore-bound coach of Ananda Paribahan from Dhaka plunged into a roadside corn field on Dhaka-Paturia highway after the driver lost control over the steering at Muljan area. Local people sent the passengers to 250-bed Manikganj Sadar Hospital. Of the injured, condition of 19 are stated to be serious. Sobahan Shikder, one of the passengers admitted to the hospital, said the bus driver was driving recklessly. The body of the child has been sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
In Sherpur: Three motorcyclists were killed and another injured as a bus hit a motorcycle in Tengrakhali intersection area of Nalitabari upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Khorshed Alam, 19, Shahin Miah, 20, and Asmat Ali, 21, hailing from Noyapara village of Baksiganj upazila in Jamalpur district.
Fashiur Rahman, OC of Nalitabari police, said a Sherpur-bound bus from Nalitabari hit the motorcycle in the area around 5.45am, leaving the trio dead on the spot and another critically injured. The motorbike riders were returning home after attending a picnic in ‘Modhutila Eco Park’ in the upazila, The injured was rushed to Sherpur Zila Hospital.Police seized the bus but the driver and helper fled away.
