Family members foiled a suicide attempt by a 12-year-old girl at a village in Madhupur upazila of the district on Thursday.  The victim tried to commit suicide by hanging after she was allegedly raped by her neighbour. According to family sources, the parents of the victim went for work on Wednesday evening. At that time neighbour Azizul Hoque, 20, son of Julhash Uddin of village Zangalia in the upazila, entered the house and raped her after stuffing a napkin into her mouth. Hearing the groaning of the girl, neighbours rushed to the spot, tried to chase the culprit; but he escaped the scene.  The girl immediately after the incident tried to commit suicide by hanging, but was rescued.
