Green activists yesterday asked politicians, ministers and top bureaucrats to receive their medical treatment at the country’s public hospitals and not at overseas ones, reports UNB. They came up with the call at a human chain programme jointly organised by Poribesh Bachao Andolon (Poba) and Bangladesh Cancer Society in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital. Poba chairman Abu Naser Khan, its executive general secretary Engr Abdus Sobhan, general secretary of Bangladesh Cancer Society SM Abdur Rahman, Poba joint secretary Hafizur Rahman Moyna and Pallima Green member secretary Anisul Hossain, among others, spoke at the programme. Naser said a good number of top politicians and bureaucrats go abroad seeking medical treatment each year, which depicts that they have no confidence in the country’s healthcare facilities. He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already announced that she will take her medical treatment at domestic hospitals. The environmental activists hoped that the top politicians like ministers and MPs and bureaucrats will come up with their announcements that they will receive medical treatment at the country public hospitals as the Prime Minister has done.
